How To Calibrate Your Headphones
In this post I will teach you a quick, easy and free way to get the most out of your headphones by calibrating them.
Visit Auto.EQ
Find your headphone brand & model
Select “Harman Over-Ear 2018” Profile
Click “Select Equalizer App” & Select Custom Parametric EQ
Untick (Raw, Error, Equalizer) to make the graph more understandable
In the filters menu set the Low Shelf “Min FC” to 20 & set the “Min/Max Q” to 0.1 - 1.0
Set the “Min FC” for the “Peaking” filters to 100
Now scroll to the bottom and click the little arrow icon to download your EQ into txt format
Put your daws stock EQ at the end of your master chain and input the values in the txt document
(If you are using Pro-Q from fab filter the Q values won’t be the same so better to use your daws stock EQ for this purpose)
Compensate the gain!
And there you go it’s that easy! This should help you make better and more informed mixing decisions and hopefully help your mixes translate better.
Just be aware that some headphones can struggle with low end boosts and possibly distort so I will link a channel I trust and get most of my information from so you can get some more in depth knowledge if you feel its necessary.
